Indonesia Young Composer Competition 2019



  1. Open for all Indonesian citizens, with maximum age of 35 years old.
  2. The deadline for submission is September 1, 2019.
  3. Registration fee is Rp100.000,00. Participants also required to buy 1 copy of "Sapardi Djoko Damono’s book Hujan Bulan Juni".
  4. The length of the piece is between 4 to 8 minutes.
  5. Standard Western notation writing system is required.
    (Winner must provide scores for the whole choir and parts for orchestra within 2 weeks after announcement from the panel).
  6. Piece submitted must be an original composition based on Sapardi Djoko Damono’s Poetry “Terbangnya Burung” from the book Hujan Bulan Juni.
  7. Piece written for SATB (Mixed Choir) Acapella – or accompanied by strings orchestra.
  8. Prize
    1st Place
    • Cash prize of Rp2.000.000,00
    • A premiere for the piece by Bandung Philharmonic Choir and Bandung Philharmonic on November/December 2019 symphony concert.
    • 1 VIP ticket and 2 Nights Accommodation for Bandung Philharmonic’s symphonic concert on November/December 2019.
    2nd Place
    • Cash prize of Rp1.000.000,00
    • 1 VIP ticket for Bandung Philharmonic’s symphonic concert on November/December 2019.
    3rd Place
    • Cash prize of Rp500.000,00
    • 1 VIP ticket for Bandung Philharmonic’s symphonic concert on November/December 2019.
  9. The panel of judges for the competition are Bandung Philharmonic’s Choral Director – Joel Navarro, Bandung Philharmonic’s artistic directors - Robert Nordling and Michael Hall and Composer in Residence – Marisa Sharon Hartanto.
  10. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into by the judges in relation to that decision.
  1. Send the piece along with the payment receipt and a picture of your ID card/ Passport/ Birth certificate, at the latest, by September 1, 2019 to info@bandungphilharmonic.web.id in the form of 2 separate PDF documents. Full score document is separated from the composer’s ID document.
  2. Send the registration payment to Yayasan Bandung Philharmonic’s account, BCA 0085777730, Asia Afrika branch.
  3. The subject of the e-mail is “Indonesian Young Composers Competition 2019”. Please include your Name, Address, E-mail, Phone Number, and the Title of the Piece in the e-mail body.
  4. Upon receiving the piece, registration payment receipt, and ID picture, we will send a random participant code to the participants, e.g. ZXC789.
  5. The committee will send the piece with the random participant code to the panel of judges.
  6. Announcement will be made through Bandung Philharmonic’s website, social media, and e-mail on September 18, 2019.
  7. Winner from previous year competitions or Composer whose work has been played by Bandung Philharmonic are NOT ALLOWED to enter this competition.
  8. Winners will receive a FREE online tutorial tuition from Master composition student of The Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music - National University of Singapore.
